Lowes Takes Us to School With Vine

I’ve been talking with my fellow public relations consultants over possible applications for Vine, the app that allows users to take and post six-second videos online.

Is it a slight upgrade from photos?   Is it really just for the Hollywood types to showcase their latest antics? Does it have business-to-business public relations applications?  It’s clearly clever, but how can we use this thing?

While my colleagues and I were scratching our head, the folks at Lowes, the home improvement retailer, figured out an extremely smart application with its #Lowesfixinsix video series of DIY and household tips.

In just six seconds, Lowes teaches consumes how to use a rubber band to remove a screw with a stripped head, how a milk container can be converted into a handy watering can or how a cupcake liner can put an end to a sticky situation.

Like most very good ideas, Lowes’ applications for Vine are simple, brief, visually compelling and easily understood.

My colleagues and I have already starting talking with our clients about how we might put our own touches on this very clever application of Vine.
